COVETED ITEM: 29/10/2012

29 Oct

One of my favourite hobbies is trawling through sites like net-a-porter at the Black Tie section, wishing that I had somewhere to go and a means of buying one of these gorgeous designs. And so it follows that this week, my coveted item comes from Alice & Olivia’s new evening collection.

At first, I thought the material was somewhat bouclé, but on closer inspection I noticed that it was actually an intricate floral design. The colours are perfect for my colouring and I’m always a fan of strapless and peplums! But at £1410, I might have to keep on coveting…

If only my life were far more extravagant than it is!

COVETED ITEM: 22/10/2012

Seen as Halloween is just around the corner, this week I’m going to be dedicating my posts to it! Many of you are probably stuck for costume ideas, but this week’s coveted item is witchy but yet stylish enough to pull you through All Hallows Eve fabulously!

This embroidered little Topshop number is equally as spooky as it is pretty and would look great with a long black skirt, cape and witch hat! Failing that, after Halloween, it’s perfect for those chilly winter nights – just perfect your abs first – its a crop!

So to day 2 of my SS13 bag round up! We’ve already seen some of the beautiful creations that some of the designers have added to their collections and today I hope to show some of the more show-stopping ones.

Louis Vuitton’s cute little mini-satchel came in as many colours and patterns as the dresses that inspired them. A 60s influenced bag that is perfect for those times when a big bag is impractical but yet you still need somewhere to keep all those belongings!

From a tiny bag to a giant one, Hermes showed the perfect holdall bag – perfect for students and people who just have a LOT of stuff (comme moi!). I love the colours, the woven texture and the size! I need a bag like this to make my life so much easier!

This Emilio Pucci golden lovely is the perfect instalment of glamour into an outfit. These boxy clutches are great for those more dressy evenings, but holding them all night can become a bit irritating so the addition of the chain is awesome! I will certainly be investing in a gold box clutch to go with all my white ensembles for summer!

Now this just wouldn’t be a run down of the SS13 season’s bags without mentioning the Chanel hula hoop! A favourite of Alexa Chung, it certainly makes a statement. I can imagine that the likes of Anna Dello Russo carrying this around the pool on her next summer holiday. If the aim of fashion is art and innovation – then Karl Lagerfeld definitely got this one right!

Are there any bags that you think I’ve missed?

Some girls like clothes and some like accessories. As you can probably tell from the dedication of a week’s worth of posts, I am the latter. Well and truly obsessed with shoes and bags! Here I’m going to run down my favourites from the SS13 catwalks – all of which are almost as lovely as the outfits that were shown with them!

Celine’s luxury paper bag was a huge hit for the upcoming season. An inventive take on the oversized clutch trend, the neutral colour and subtle style make this bag a must for any girl with a capsule wardrobe or a busy life. It’s practical too, you can fit so much into it! I might just fashion my own out of a paper bag and pretend that I can afford the real thing!

Next up is Lanvin’s boxy design. The ideal evening bag, it adds that little extra something to the outfits I love (all black and simple lines – as always). The colour is totally on trend and the chain adds just the right amount of softness to the bag in general. Gorgeous.

As a firm advocate of the bowler/doctors bag, the Del Ray was one of my favourite bag shapes that Mulberry has ever brought out. The pretty prints of the ones seen on the SS13 catwalks are perfect for summer and just subtle enough to be worn with virtually any outfit. I NEED one of these bags in my life!

I’m a HUGE fan of Victoria Beckham’s introduction of accessories to her already phenomenal collections. This bag isn’t exactly something we haven’t seen before but paired with her minimalistic yet feminine ensembles it fits perfectly in this list. The colours are on trend and summery, the versatility is off the radar and the size is perfect.

More tomorrow villains!

Following on from my latest post about the footwear trends for SS13, it only seemed right to indulge myself in writing about my favourites. Starting with this awesome sandal by Victoria Beckham.

The simplicity of gladiator sandals combined with their innate ability to make any summer outfit look automatically chicer has always excited me. These beauties are no different! With their Spartan woman strength but gorgeous leather texture they will make even a plain white summer dress look edgier whilst keeping your feet oh so comfy on those hot summer nights. Well done VB!

And it just wouldn’t be my top 5 without including at least something animal print and sky high! These killer Lanvin heels are just the right shade of green so that they wont clash with anything but are also great for adding that pop of colour that religious supporters of all-black need! Their snakeskin design and super-high heel makes them my first choice for inspiration for the next time I go out on the town.

Everyone loves a chunky heel, right? Etro seem to think so! The woven texture and basic design make this shoes some of the more versatile from the SS13 catwalks. Worn with a midi skirt and crisp white shirt for the daytime/work or with an LBD for night-time, these shoes will flawlessly blend with any look.

The first of two of the more exquisite designs from the SS13 shows, Marchesa’s embellished sandal will have us all feeling like summer royalty when we slip them on. The ornate pattern of crystals are beautiful and would go perfectly with an angelic maxi dress for a great summer night-time look.

And it wouldn’t be a run-down without Valentino’s Cinderella-style glass slipper. Valentino has an ability to make every woman feel more feminine and womanly and with this we can hark back to our five year old days of dressing like princesses without feeling like a five year old. The perspex adds an edge that makes the shoe grown up and the heel adds just the right amount of glamour to still be wearable yet fabulous  Here’s hoping that next year Valentino shows some bright yellow ball gowns a la Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Okay so in keeping with my fashion month round up, this week I thought I would turn to accessories, in particular for today; shoes. I’ve rounded up the biggest trends from the foot of the catwalk for the SS13 season right here.

Firstly, lets take a look at the epic sandals which were on show.

When summer comes around we all like to know that we have our trusty pair of sandals to get us through it. This season, the sandals became epic, they were knee high, embellished, heeled, metallic – you name it, tons of designers had it. From the adventurous heeled versions at Versace to the delicate embellishment at Miu Miu and the minimalistic charm to those at Alexander Wang, this seasons runways had me spoilt for choice!

Secondly, moving on to the perspex trend.

When someone describes a shoe as having a ‘perspex sole, heel included’, strippers generally come to mind. Stella McCartney’s creations were far from that and looked more Cinderella than Showgirls. At Chanel, it was the subtle detailing that nailed this trend and Sarah Burton showed once again that her designs know no limit of extravagance with contained glitter platforms at Alexander McQueen. Only the best designers in the world could turn perspex into something high fashion, and for that, we salute you!

Finally, the boots. I, for one, love a good boot. I spend a decent amount of money on a new pair every year because I wear them so much and for that reason I am SO excited that I’ll get to wear them in summer too! House of Holland showed them in a high fashion meets hi-tops style in gorgeous metallics, Vivienne Westwood had pretty little ankle boots to take you from day to night and Marc Jacobs showed the ever-trendy Chelsea boot in his collections. Paired with a cute little day dress, these boots make the perfect addition to a wardrobe of a girl who lives somewhere where it is very likely to rain for 90% of the summer.

What shoes did you notice this season?

Okay so now the its officially autumn, I thought I’d take a look at the trends that captured the SS13 catwalks to make us long for a warmer time..

I’ll start with the trend that I most enjoy; the short paired with a jacket to make the perfect casual look.

At Paul & Joe it was a monochromatic affair with the perfect day to evening outfit. The mis-matched prints and the monochrome work really well for taking this look from the office to the cocktail bar. Paul Smith reminded us of those oh-so stylish travellers that manage to look uber chic whilst still remaining comfortable and casual. Finally, Victoria Beckham’s 60s inspired miniskirt and matching jacket are perfect for summer and a great excuse to get the pins out! As someone who loves clothing which is both stylish and practical, the short suit will be creeping its way into my wardrobe come next summer.

Secondly, lets take a look at the BRIGHTS that graced our catwalks this season…

Burberry Prorsum offered us a gorgeous mix of natural colours from green lace to the ensemble picture which is reminiscent of a summer berry mix which is as delicious as it is stylish! Reem Acra had a similar idea with this gorgeous red dress which I can almost guarantee will be witnessed on some red carpet event next awards season (my bet is on Olivia Wilde at the Met Ball/Oscars). And we can’t discuss colour without drawing on Marc Jacobs latest effort at Louis Vuitton which consisted of a sunshine yellow catwalk and numerous looks in the same colour. Yellow is a hard look to pull off, but I’m going to make it my mission to get something bright yellow in my closet next year!

And quite possibly the biggest trend from the SS13 shows (of which almost every designer had something that would fit into this category) is WHITE.

The most obvious trend this year was the whites that were on show. In as many ways as we can describe that the fashion industry impacts almost every other industry in some way, we can now say that the launderette business will be booming after next summer when EVERY remotely stylish woman in the world will be needing her whites doing, and doing well. The cleanliness of the trend is the best part. In the messy world that we live in, feeling clean and fresh can always make us feel so much better and so by combining that with the glamour and the drama that is a necessary part of fashion, this trend and the creations that came alongside will be a huge influence on the wardrobes of so many women come next may.
